Bicycle Rodeo

Spring has arrived and the AMA bike rodeo along with it! We heard about it because Aubrey's Kindergarten class was going as part of school. The entire elementary school does. I actually thought that it was for school but I learned when we got there that it is for the community and anyone can join in! The boys and I went to watch Aubrey and when we got there we saw that there were bikes and helmets for anyone to use. Carter was game, but Jensen didn't want to participate because of the hair net he would have to wear under the helmet.

Carter couldn't figure out how to work the borrowed trike. He's used to his strider...

The kids learned all about road/bike safety and they learned all the signs for turning and stopping on a bike. After they had mastered that they got to go through a little course. Aubrey decided to use her bike with training wheels even though she can go without just because she felt more confident with the training wheels. She was so nervous going through the course. It was pretty cute. But once she realized that it wasn't a test she relaxed and did great! When the kids were through the course they watched a demonstration of what happens when you don't wear a seat belt and your car rolls. There were 2 dummies in a truck that rolls in the air on some sort of contraption. At the end of it all the kids got a treat bag and they were thrilled!

I think Jan was really wishing that he could have joined in too. He looks pretty great on Aubrey's princess bike though!

It was a lot of fun for all the kids. And now I know for next year to bring the boys bikes and helmets so they can participate too.
